I Truly Believe…There is a Future Beyond Your Past

I truly believe that in every person there is a desire to be inherently good. After 15 years of working with people in the most desperate, desolate, and harsh times of their life, I realize that most people want to be good. People may find this hard to believe but even those who find themselves on the other side of the criminal system, most have a desire to do what is right.  Sometimes because of life circumstances people lose sight of that ability.  Yes, we are all born with a sinful nature but there is an empty hole inside of every person the crave for the goodness of God, whether they can name it or not. I have worked with murderers, rapists, child molesters, child abusers and drug dealers. Without exception, every one of them have wanted to have a better life. No one set out with a goal of ending up where they did when our paths crossed.  Many couldn’t see past the circumstances of their own past to hope for a brighter and better future.

Restoring Voice - Future beyond your Past

I have seen so many people overcome the past when provided the hope of a better life. When they are challenged to do better, they became better. Too often in our society, we write people off because of their sins forgetting that we are sinners too.

I believe every person needs someone who can come alongside of them and hope for them until they can hope for themselves.  That everyone needs someone who could point out the good in them even when they see no good in themselves.  I believe that every person has the potential to overcome the past mistakes and be a better person.

I believe that is why God told us that we needed to lift each other up and encourage one another.  He knew the fallen world in which we live.  He knew the darkness that could so easily overcome even the brightest for His angels were created in the perfect place and yet the darkness overcame many. I believe that as Christian it’s our job to help people see a the future beyond their past. To help people see potential beyond their failures. To help people see and hope for something better, for the life that Christ died for them to have.

This I truly believe.
